 Dr. Kenneth Zahl is an accomplished physician with over 20 years of experience in the field of anesthesiology and pain medicine. He is an internationally recognized expert in outpatient anesthesia, regional and ophthalmic anesthesia. He then applied this training to the burgeoning field of pain medicine, mastering the latest techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain.After graduating with Honors from New York University (Brown Scholar and Founders Day Award), in New York City, he then completed his Medical Degree at the Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, in the city of New York. Dr. Zahl then completed his anesthesiology and pain management training at the prestigious Department of Anesthesiology of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School/Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to this, he had also completed an internship in internal medicine at State University/Kings County Hospitals in Brooklyn. He has held teaching positions at the University of Pennsylvania, SUNY HSC Brooklyn, Mt Sinai School of Medicine, Columbia University and University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. Dr. Zahl had a distinguished career in academic anesthesiology with: over 10 peer reviewed scientific publications in prestigious medical journals; over twenty five scientific abstract presentations at major medical meetings; scores of local, national and international lectures; teaching nerve blocks to hundreds of doctors; publishing a monograph on ophthalmic anesthesia; served for eight years on the Board of Directors of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA). After leaving academic medicine, Dr. Zahl was the founding medical director of Ridgedale Surgery Center in Morris County 1993. In 1995 Dr. Zahl launched Paindoctor.com, one of the early sites on the web to promote a pain practice, and by 1998 he dedicated his career solely to pain medicine. Dr. Zahl has continued to be a pioneer in the field of pain medicine by offering same day treatments in free standing office settings, without the need for expensive hospitalization. Dr. Zahl is an active member of the International Society for Spinal Intervention and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP). He recently was a very active lobbyist with ASIPP to assist in the passage of NASPER, a bill sponsored by doctors to provide and improve patient access with quality care, and protect patients and physicians from deleterious effects of controlled substance misuse, abuse and trafficking. |
