In the quickly emerging specialty of pain management, Dr. Gabor Racz is a leader, and the groundbreaking father of techniques that are performed daily in pain management clinics across the world.
Dr. Racz, originally from Hungary, attended the University of Liverpool Medical School in Liverpool, England. After spending time treating patients in Liverpool at the Royal Southern Hospital, Dr. Racz moved to the United States to complete an anesthesiology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in New York. While in New York, Dr. Racz was diversified, handling such appointments as a respiratory consultant in the neurosurgical head injury unit. He spent time as an associate professor at SUNY, before moving to Lubbock, Texas in 1977, where he was appointed as the first Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the newly instated Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He led tirelessly in this position until 1999, when he shifted his focus to treating patients, expanding the idea of pain management, and was instrumental in the eventual founding of an international pain institute in Texas.
He has been a prominent influence in bringing the International Pain Institute at Texas Tech University Health Science Center to a world-class and world-recognized program, which attracts patients and physicians from around the globe. Dr. Racz served as the President of the World Institute of Pain, and as such, presided over the 4th World Institute of Pain World Congress in 2007.
Dr. Racz is a Diplomat with the American College of Pain Management, holds an American Board of Anesthesiology certification in Pain Management and is a World Institute of Pain Fellow in Interventional Pain Practice. Dr. Racz is consistently published in journals and books, and is often a reference for medical articles.
